It’s hard to imagine that this day, in 1937, The Hobbit was released in book form for the first time.
If you haven’t read it, you are in for a huge treat. It’s a juvenile fiction book with parts that resonate with any age – think Alice in Wonderland, Sherlock Holmes, Catcher in The Rye- or if you are George Bush – The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
It is consistently in the top 5000 books list, never leaving it – and if you have a copy kicking about – check it isn’t a signed 1st edition- they can go for over £60,000 according to Wikipedia.
The film of The Hobbit has been broken into 3 parts, and are being released year upon year from 2012. They are: An Unexpected Journey (2012), The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and There and Back Again (2014) are highly anticipated by Lord of The Rings fans wanting more from the brilliant mind of Tolkien.
The Hobbit films will have crossovers with actors like Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood, and Orlando Bloom from the Lord of the Rings films appearing in The Hobbit – as well as new actors taking roles- including Martin Freeman (The Office) as Bilbo Baggins, Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield, and Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock!) as Smaug.
A video game has been confirmed to come before the film is released too- (The film release date in the UK for The Hobbit is set at present to Friday 14th December 2012)
