Angry Birds Celebrates Award PLUS 25% off Stock

Published by Elaine Arthur on 27 April 2012

We’re a bit slow off the mark with this news, but still, we did want to discuss the Appy Awards winners from yesterday. – If you just want the offer then now’s the time to scroll to the bottom!

Plenty of the usual suspects popped up, with Facebook (obviously) YouTube (of course) but we really wanted to talk about Angry Birds – the game that makes up 25% of all downloads involving hitting pigs with birds using a catapult – a target that was chosen due to the prevalence during development of swine flu, so it is said.

So apparently, David Cameron has completed all the levels of the app. Now, we aren’t sure if this is true, or if he tasked Nick Clegg to finish off and get him 3 stars on the tricky bits, but either way, if an app can make it to all levels of society, from the PM to Huggable Hoodies, then who are we to argue?

The concept is so simple, but what makes Angry birds so addictive? We think it’s the updates and the work on the game, which left to its own devices, might have died a death long ago.

Owned and made by Rovio who took over Futuremark Games Studio last month and have a background of over 50 previous titles- Burnout, Marine Sniper, Formula GP racing, Paid to Kill, are a few- although we haven’t had much experience of the game “King of the Cabbage World”- this company isn’t just after a quick buck with an app and to get on the bandwagon. In fact they’ve said they want to be bigger than Disney.

Working with other media like‘Rio’, even if you didn’t see the film (no matter how hard they merchandised it out) you will probably have played Angry Birds Rio as part of the update.

Whereas Draw Something results in a maximum game playing level of 99 and Temple Run is essentially a platform game that requires all your attention, Angry Birds allows you to keep your progress going at your own pace, whilst retaining your previous ‘acheivements’. Great for perfectionists, the scores can be revisited and worked on. The scoreboard lends itself to healthy competition, even if it is with the whole entire world.

Simple but refreshing, and updated for seasons(Halloween and Easter for example), as well as a recent spate of work with NASA for Angry Birds Space, there’s always a new challenge from angry birds which makes for a great gaming experience.

Oh, and if you pop the sound on, who wouldn’t be entertained by that ‘Squawk’.
