We are incredibly saddened to learn that the creative genius behind one of our most iconic posters has recently passed away.
Tanya Chalkin was of course the mastermind behind ‘The Kiss’ a simple yet striking black and white image that would adorn billboards and bedrooms around the world and create a lasting legacy which will see her remembered as one of the greatest photographers of the modern era.
The image of two twenty-something beautiful females caught in a passionate embrace garnered as much controversy as it did praise but has evidently withstood the test of time – going on to become one of GB Posters all time bestselling images even 17 years after it’s creation. There have been many pastiches of The Kiss – featuring men, cute puppies and even Barbie Dolls, there were even a few alternative outtake shots which were used by us as posters but none that came even close to the popularity of the original.
This amazing article by the brilliant Sophie Wilkinson shapes the tale about The Kiss, the story behind it and the lasting impact it had around the world.
Everyone at GB Posters would like to extend our sincere condolences to Tanya’s family.
