Game of Thrones – What’s to come in season 8?

30th August 2017

Let’s start this off with the obvious, this article contains Game of Thrones season 7 finale spoilers. If you haven’t seen it, read on at your own peril!

Well, where do we start with that finale? So many awesome things happened in the extended 79 minute episode on Monday, including Little Finger finally getting his comeuppance!

But let’s start with one of the biggest issues, finally the army of the dead arrived at the wall including the Night King flying in on Viserion. The Great War will be in full flow come season 8. Our bets are on for seeing loads more awesome shots of Viserion breathing ice fire, but what will take him down? Drogon and Rhaegal? A dragonstone or valyrian steel javelin inspired by the Night King? Will he cease to exist once the Night King is finally killed, just like that scene we witnessed in episode 6? Or will the Night King and his army win and everyone else dies. Imagine that!

Jaime has finally deserted Cersei! Game of Thrones readers have been waiting for this to happen for a very long time and it did in a spectacular fashion. For a split second we thought The Mountain was going to behead him, it was a hands over the face kind of moment! We’re expecting him to keep his word and join his pal Brienne of Tarth in the north fighting the dead. There’s some rumors flying around predicting Jaime to be the one to kill off Cersei in season 8, we would love to see that!

It’s finally official, Jon Snow is actually Aegon Targaryen, which gives him more of a claim to the iron throne than Daenerys. Confirmed by Samwell (who owes Gilly a huge apology for cutting her off earlier in the season) and Bran with an awesome flash back to the secret marriage of Rhaegar and Lyanna. This is going to cause some serious beef between him and Dany, our predictions are that Jon/Aegon won’t fight for the right to the iron throne. We just hope he ends up riding a dragon at some point in the final season (which is going to seriously annoy Tyrion, who’s already rather peeved!)

We could go on forever analysing every single line from the finale and making predictions left right and center. But we won’t. Saying that there is one more thing we are keeping our fingers crossed for in the final Game of Thrones season… Cleganebowl! That scene where the hound finally sees his now zombified brother was fantastic with Sando saying to Gregor ‘This isn’t how it ends for you, brother’.

Now, the predictions for the air dates for season 8 aren’t looking good. Some are very optimistic in predicting July 2018 however others are saying it could creep in to 2019. The season will be 6 episodes rumored to all be feature length, none of this 50-60 minutes malarkey and filming will start in October this year. One thing we do know, we cannot wait to see how it all ends. Let us know your predictions in the comments below.
