The aches and pains have just about subsided so we are extremely proud to share the achievements of two members of our team who recently completed an incredible 325 mile bike ride from Bristol to Dublin to raise money for charities supported by The Light Fund.
Our head of Ecommerce Jamie Wilkins and Lee Burgess from our parent company GB eye teamed up with over 60 other executives from the licensing industry to tackle the mammoth ride which spanned four days and in total raised a staggering £200,000.
The route saw the team depart Bristol, crossing the Severn Bridge and heading for the Welsh valleys where they crossed the Irish Sea at Fishguard to Rosslare and made their way through County Carlow towards Dublin where they were rewarded with a well earned pint of Guinness at the Merry Ploughboy pub just outside Dublin.
Collectively the team cycled a total of 21,500 miles – the equivalent of flying a return journey from London to Australia!
The original idea behind The Light Fund was to build an industrywide charity body that would raise monies to fund worthwhile charity projects to help children, women and men. Together with a group of like-minded people from the UK licensing industry, The Light Fund committee was formed in 2004 and the fundraising commenced! Since its inception the charity has raised over £1 million which has been distributed to wide range of beneficiaries including Macmillan Cancer Support, Make-A-Wish Foundation, GOSH, Alzheimer’s Society and many more.
