Hokusai

Living in from 1760 to 1849 in Edo, Japan (modern day Tokyo), Hokusai is a legendary Japanese artist who adopted the ukiyo-e painting style.

He is most well-known for his series, Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, which includes the iconic print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa. He is often cited as having a large cultural and artistic influence on modern Japan, particular in manga and anime. He created his own Hokusai Manga which consisted of 15 volumes!

He continued to work until his death at age 88, and produced over 30,000 paintings, sketches, woodblock prints and images for books. If you are a fan of Japanese art, it does not come more influential and authentic than Hokusai.
